Know the rules before you post
Instagram’s Community Guidelines (external site) do not allow nudity or sexual solicitation, and it can limit how widely an account is shown without removing it. Creators who treat Instagram as a shop window for lifestyle, fitness, fashion or personality content tend to last much longer than those who push the limits. What to post
- Reels that show your personality and niche. Short-form video is how most new people find accounts.
- Behind-the-scenes and lifestyle content that makes people curious about you.
- Stories for your existing followers, with a reason to visit your link page.
- A consistent look, so people recognise your content as they scroll.
Your bio and link page
Most creators use a link page in their bio rather than a direct link to an adult platform, and keep the wording in the bio itself neutral. Check the link-page provider’s own rules too, as some do not allow adult links. [VERIFY: current Instagram handling of links to adult platforms]
Avoid the habits that get accounts restricted
- Buying followers or likes, or using engagement groups.
- Mass following and unfollowing, or sending the same message to lots of people.
- Hashtags that Instagram has restricted. Check each one before you use it.
- Reposting other people’s content without permission.
Have a backup plan
Even careful accounts can be restricted by mistake. Keep a backup account, encourage followers to join an email list or another channel you control, and make sure no single platform is your only source of new subscribers. Our Reddit guide covers one alternative.
